Thru Casing Perforation Tunnel Drilling Tool

The Perf-Drill perforation tunnel drilling tool drills a large I.D. perforation tunnel using a unique patented (Feb. 2003) articulated drill string. The Perf-Drill  mills a casing window, then drills clean, 2 7/8-in diameter perforation tunnels as much as 30-ft (9 m) out from the well bore, exiting at an angle of 15° from the casing axis and building to horizontal within 20 feet.

This versatile tool can operate in any fluid, at any depth, and can be driven by a power swivel, topdrive or mud motor. It can even be conveyed and operated on coiled tubing (CT).

Any number of perforations can be made on a single trip into the hole. The Perf-Drill is a single trip tool, with the pre-set exit angle of 15° integrated into the guide shoe. All parts of the tool are alloy steel with no operational sensitivity to temperature or pressure and can operate at any depth. The key to the system is our articulated drive shaft that enables a quick clean casing exit and a continuation of the exit tunnel at the exit angle.

When constant weight is applied and standard drilling practices applied, the drive shaft is rigid and follows its own path initiated from the guide shoe. The innovative carbide insert or carbide matrix bit allows a quick exit through the casing (15 minutes through 0.472 wall P-110 API casing) and a steady milling/drilling continuation of the 2-7/8 inch diameter perforation tunnel.
